Associazione Culturale Zenobi was officially established in 1998 and has about one hundred members mostly in Friuli Venezia Giulia. Associazione Zenobi’s historic approach is to revist the events of the First World War with special interest for places where fighting was more intense with a view to highlighting the human experience of soldiers in both Armies as well as the civilian populations who experienced “war in their homes”. Special attention is given to transformations and repercussions caused in this region by war.  The war area is seen as a vast open-air museum where marks of the war, i.e. trenches, military posts, caves, memorial stones and other stoneworks alternate equally important marks created after the First World War to perpetuate its memory (monuments, museums, memorial buildings, place-names).Associazione Zenobi mainly organizes walking tours on war sites along the Isonzo front where the Italian Army and the Austrian Army faced each other between 1915 and 1917. As well as walking tours, Associazione Zenobi also promotes and organizes exhibitions, meetings, conferences, presentations of new books, films and historic documentaries. Associazione Zenobi also intends to promote knowledge of the First World War at the Isonzo front through the publication of guidebooks describing historic excursions for non-experts.
